The DS26LV32ATMX/NOPB from Texas Instruments is a 3.3V enhanced CMOS quad differential line receiver in a 16-pin SOIC package. The T suffix denotes the industrial temperature range version, M denotes SOIC-16 package, X indicates tape and reel, and /NOPB denotes lead-free packaging. Compliant with TIA/EIA-422-B (RS-422) and ITU-T V.11, the device features four independent differential receivers with +/-7V common-mode range at VID=3V and +/-10V at VID=0.2V. The open-input failsafe feature guarantees a HIGH output state when receiver inputs are left floating, preventing undefined bus states. The 3-state output enables (EN and EN*) allow multiple devices to share a common output bus. With 9mA typical supply current and 10Mbps signaling rate, it provides low-power 3.3V operation while maintaining interoperability with existing 5V RS-422 networks.

The DS26LV32AT operates through three subsystems: (1) Differential Receiver: Each of the four receivers converts a differential input signal (A-B) to a single-ended TTL/LVCMOS output. The receiver detects signals as low as +/-200mV over the +/-10V common-mode range. The 35mV input hysteresis provides noise immunity for slowly transitioning signals. The differential Schmitt-trigger input architecture rejects common-mode noise effectively. (2) Failsafe Logic: When the differential inputs are left open (unconnected), the receiver output is guaranteed to be HIGH. This open-input failsafe is achieved by internal biasing that pulls the non-inverting input slightly above the inverting input when no external connection is present. This prevents undefined output states in partially populated bus configurations. (3) 3-State Control: The EN (active-high) and EN* (active-low) enable pins control all four receiver outputs simultaneously. When disabled, the outputs enter a high-impedance state, allowing multiple DS26LV32AT devices to share a common data bus without contention.
