The AD7415ARTZ-0500RL7 from Analog Devices is a +/-0.5C accurate 10-bit digital temperature sensor with I2C serial interface in a tiny SOT-23-6 package. The device provides a 10-bit temperature reading with 0.25C resolution via the I2C bus, eliminating the need for an external ADC. The +/-0.5C accuracy at 25C makes it suitable for precision temperature monitoring applications. The AS (address select) pin allows two AD7415 devices to share the same I2C bus. The 0500 in the ordering code indicates the +/-0.5C accuracy grade, RTZ denotes SOT-23-6 package, and RL7 indicates 7-inch tape and reel packaging.

The AD7415ARTZ-0500RL7 operates as a digital temperature sensor with I2C interface. (1) The internal temperature sensor uses a bandgap-based PTAT (proportional-to-absolute-temperature) circuit that generates a voltage proportional to the die temperature. This voltage is digitized by a 10-bit successive approximation ADC, providing a temperature reading with 0.25C resolution. (2) The temperature value register contains the 10-bit temperature reading in two’s complement format, covering -40C to +125C. The MSB indicates the sign bit, and the lower 9 bits represent the magnitude with 0.25C per LSB. A one-shot conversion mode allows the host to trigger a single conversion and return to shutdown, minimizing average power consumption. (3) The I2C interface operates at up to 400kHz, with the base address 0x48 (1001000). The AS pin selects between two address options, allowing two devices on the same bus. The overtemperature (OTI) pin provides a hardware interrupt when temperature exceeds a programmable threshold.
