The device supports both MII and RMII MAC interfaces for flexible connection to microcontrollers and FPGAs. It features auto-negotiation for automatic speed and duplex selection, auto-MDIX for crossover detection, and integrated TDR cable diagnostics. The PHYTER technology provides robust operation with low power consumption of 270mW typical. The device operates from 3.3V supply with industrial temperature range of -40C to +85C. The DP83848IVVX/NOPB implements the IEEE 802.3 physical layer for 10/100 Ethernet. (1) 100BASE-TX: The PHY encodes transmit data using 4B/5B and MLT-3, and decodes received signals with adaptive equalization and baseline wander correction. (2) 10BASE-T: Manchester encoding/decoding for 10Mbps operation. (3) Auto-Negotiation: The device exchanges FLP bursts with the link partner to determine the highest common speed and duplex. (4) Auto-MDIX: Automatic detection and correction of crossover wiring eliminates the need for crossover cables. (5) Cable Diagnostics: TDR-based cable diagnostics measure cable length and identify open/short faults. (6) MII/RMII: The MAC interface is configurable for standard MII (25MHz TX_CLK/RX_CLK) or reduced-pin RMII (50MHz reference clock).
