The CS60-16IO1 from Littelfuse (formerly IXYS) is a 60 A, 1600 V standard SCR thyristor in an ISOPLUS247 package with electrical isolation on the backside. The planar passivated chip technology ensures long-term reliability and stable characteristics. With 1000 V/µs critical dv/dt and 150 A/µs di/dt ratings, the device is well-suited for demanding switching applications. The isolated backside allows direct mounting to a heatsink without additional insulation washers, simplifying assembly. The 3600 VRMS isolation voltage ensures safety in high-voltage circuits. The low thermal resistance of 0.45 K/W (junction to case) enables efficient heat dissipation.

Working Principle:CS60-16IO1 Working Principle

The CS60-16IO1 is a four-layer (PNPN) semiconductor thyristor that acts as a bistable switch. In the forward blocking state, the device can block up to 1600 V without conducting. When a positive gate current pulse (IGT > 100 mA) is applied with the anode positive relative to the cathode, the internal positive feedback loop activates, latching the device into the on-state where current flows freely with a low forward voltage drop (VTO = 0.82 V). Once latched, the gate loses control and the device remains on until the anode current falls below the holding current (200 mA). In reverse bias, the device blocks current like a diode up to VRRM = 1600 V. The planar passivation technology ensures stable blocking characteristics and high dv/dt immunity.
