The CS5460A-BSZ from Cirrus Logic is a highly integrated single-phase power measurement IC combining two delta-sigma ADCs, high-speed power calculation functions, and a serial interface on a single chip. It accurately measures and calculates real (true) energy, instantaneous power, IRMS, and VRMS for 2-wire or 3-wire power metering applications. With ±0.1% energy data linearity over a 1000:1 dynamic range, it meets IEC 687/1036 and JIS accuracy specifications. The auto-boot feature allows standalone operation by reading calibration data from an external EEPROM, eliminating the need for a microcontroller.

The CS5460A uses two 24-bit delta-sigma ADCs to simultaneously sample the voltage and current channels. The current channel has a programmable gain amplifier (x10 or x50) optimized for shunt resistor sensing, while the voltage channel is designed for resistive divider inputs. The digitized samples pass through high-rate digital low-pass filters and optional high-pass filters for offset removal. The power calculation engine multiplies the instantaneous voltage and current samples to compute real power, accumulates energy over time, and calculates IRMS and VRMS values. The energy-to-pulse converter generates output pulses proportional to real power, suitable for driving stepper motors or mechanical counters.
