The BLM21PG300SN1 operates as a chip ferrite bead:

1. Ferrite Material: The device consists of a multilayer ferrite body with internal conductor patterns. The ferrite material exhibits frequency-dependent impedance: low impedance at DC/low frequencies (allowing DC current to pass with minimal loss) and high impedance at high frequencies (blocking EMI noise).

2. Impedance Characteristic: At DC, the device behaves like a resistor (DCR ≈ 40 mOhm). As frequency increases, the ferrite material’s complex permeability causes impedance to rise, reaching 30 Ohm at 100MHz. This impedance is a combination of resistive (lossy) and reactive (inductive) components.

3. EMI Suppression: When placed in series with a power line, high-frequency noise currents see high impedance and are attenuated, while the DC current passes with minimal voltage drop (V = I × DCR = 2A × 0.04Ohm = 80mV).

4. Current Derating: Above the rated 2A, the ferrite material approaches magnetic saturation, reducing impedance. At saturation, the ferrite bead loses its EMI suppression effectiveness.
