The B72210S2251K101 from TDK/EPCOS is a 20mm MOV varistor rated at 680V/420VAC providing high-energy surge protection for AC power lines in industrial and consumer equipment.

The MOV is a voltage-dependent resistor with a nonlinear V-I characteristic. Below its varistor voltage (680V), it presents very high impedance. When a transient exceeds the varistor voltage, the impedance drops dramatically, clamping the voltage and diverting surge current away from the protected circuit.
