The ATMEGA32A-AU from Microchip Technology is a low-power CMOS 8-bit AVR RISC-based microcontroller featuring 32KB of in-system programmable Flash, 1KB EEPROM, and 2KB SRAM. With 32 programmable I/O lines, JTAG interface for on-chip debugging and programming, 8-channel 10-bit ADC with optional differential input, four PWM channels, and multiple communication interfaces (USART, TWI, SPI), it provides a versatile solution for a wide range of embedded control applications.

The ATMEGA32A is based on the AVR enhanced RISC architecture with 131 instructions, most executing in a single clock cycle. The 32 general-purpose registers are directly connected to the ALU, allowing two independent registers to be accessed in one instruction cycle. The Harvard architecture separates program memory (Flash) from data memory (SRAM). The JTAG interface enables boundary-scan testing and on-chip debugging. Six sleep modes (Idle, ADC Noise Reduction, Power-save, Power-down, Standby, Extended Standby) allow fine-grained power management for battery-operated applications.
