The PUI Audio AT-3237-TF-LW140-R is a piezoelectric transducer designed for external-drive audible alert applications. With a resonant frequency of 3,700Hz and minimum sound pressure level of 98dBA at 10cm, this transducer produces clearly audible alarm tones in industrial and medical environments. The external drive circuit requirement allows the designer to control the drive frequency for optimized SPL output at resonance, or to generate multi-tone alert patterns. The wide 3 to 28 Vp-p operating voltage range accommodates both low-voltage logic-level drives and higher-voltage industrial supplies. The panel-mount design with pre-attached UL1095 AWG #28 wire leads simplifies mechanical installation in enclosure panels.

The AT-3237-TF-LW140-R uses a piezoelectric ceramic disc bonded to a metal diaphragm. When an AC voltage is applied across the ceramic element at or near the 3,700Hz resonant frequency, the inverse piezoelectric effect causes the disc to flex, generating sound waves. Maximum SPL output is achieved when the drive frequency matches the mechanical resonance of the disc assembly. The 20,000pF capacitance is characteristic of the piezo ceramic element and determines the reactive current draw at the drive frequency. As an external-drive device, the host circuit must generate the AC excitation signal, typically using a 555 timer, MCU PWM output, or dedicated buzzer driver IC.
