The USB3320C-EZK-TR from Microchip Technology is a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 ULPI transceiver that provides the physical layer interface between a USB link controller and the USB bus. It supports all three USB 2.0 data rates: Hi-Speed (480 Mbps), Full-Speed (12 Mbps), and Low-Speed (1.5 Mbps). The ULPI (UTMI+ Low Pin Interface) reduces the interface pin count between the PHY and the controller to just 12 signals using a 60 MHz SDR clock. The device integrates all USB termination resistors, supports USB OTG Session Request Protocol (SRP) and Host Negotiation Protocol (HNP), and includes USB charger detection. It is USB-IF certified for compliance.

The USB3320C-EZK-TR serves as the physical layer (PHY) between a USB controller (link) and the USB cable. On the link side, it communicates via the ULPI interface, which uses an 8-bit or 12-bit data bus clocked at 60 MHz. The ULPI protocol multiplexes data, control, and register access over the shared bus. On the USB side, it drives and receives the D+ and D- differential signals according to USB 2.0 electrical specifications. In Hi-Speed mode, the internal 480 Mbps transceiver is activated with current-mode drivers and high-speed receivers. In Full-Speed and Low-Speed modes, the FS/LS transceivers are used. The integrated charger detection circuit identifies the type of USB charger attached, enabling optimal charging current selection.
