The TPS7A8300RGRR from Texas Instruments is a 2A ultra-low-noise LDO voltage regulator in a VQFN-20 (3.5×3.5mm) package. The device delivers only 6 uVrms output noise (10Hz to 100kHz) and -40dB PSRR at 1MHz, making it ideal for noise-sensitive RF and precision analog applications. The maximum dropout voltage is 125mV at 2A, and output voltage is programmable from 0.8V to 5V using the ANY-OUT feature (PCB trace programming without external resistors) or external feedback resistors. With a BIAS supply, the device supports input voltages as low as 1.1V. The TPS7A8300 provides 1% output accuracy over line, load, and temperature, and includes soft-start for controlled output voltage ramp. Remote sense capability compensates for PCB trace resistance in high-current applications.

The TPS7A8300RGRR uses a PMOS pass element LDO architecture optimized for ultra-low noise. (1) Pass Element: A low-threshold PMOS transistor connects VIN to VOUT, controlled by the error amplifier. The PMOS architecture inherently provides low dropout (125mV max at 2A) since the gate can be driven to ground. (2) Noise Reduction: An external NR/SS capacitor filters the internal voltage reference noise, achieving the ultra-low 6 uVrms output noise specification. The same capacitor also sets the soft-start ramp time. (3) ANY-OUT Programming: Internal resistor dividers are connected to the S0-S3 pins. Connecting these pins to ground adds the corresponding resistor to the feedback network, programming the output voltage without external resistors. (4) BIAS Supply: An optional BIAS pin provides power for the internal control circuitry, enabling operation with VIN as low as 1.1V while maintaining low dropout performance. (5) Remote Sense: The SENSE pin connects directly at the load, compensating for PCB trace IR drops to maintain accurate voltage at the point of load.
