The Texas Instruments TPS7A2550DRVR is a dual-output low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator providing 5.0V at 400mA and 3.3V at 300mA from a single input supply up to 24V. The device delivers 1.5 uVrms output noise from 10 Hz to 100 kHz, making it one of the quietest dual LDOs available—ideal for noise-sensitive analog and RF circuits that require both 5V and 3.3V rails from a single higher-voltage source. The 72 dB PSRR at 1 kHz suppresses input supply ripple, providing clean power even when the input is derived from a switching regulator. Each output has independent enable pins, allowing flexible power sequencing. Dropout voltage is 200 mV at 400 mA (5V output), enabling efficient post-regulation from 5.5V or 6V switching rails. The device is stable with small ceramic output capacitors (4.7 uF minimum), and a programmable soft-start on each output limits inrush current. Thermal shutdown and current limiting protect against fault conditions. The wide -40C to +125C operating range supports industrial and automotive applications.

The TPS7A25 uses two independent LDO channels sharing a common input. Each channel consists of a pass transistor (PMOS), an error amplifier, a voltage reference, and protection circuitry. The error amplifier compares a divided-down version of the output voltage with the internal reference, driving the PMOS gate to maintain regulation. The ultra-low noise is achieved through careful bandgap reference design and output filtering—a dedicated noise-reduction pin (NR) on each channel allows connection of an external capacitor to filter reference noise below the 1.5 uVrms specification. Independent enable (EN) pins control each output, and the soft-start capacitors (one per channel) ramp the output voltage gradually to limit inrush current into load capacitors. The high PSRR results from the high loop gain of the error amplifier at low frequencies, attenuating input ripple before it reaches the output. Reverse current protection prevents current flow from output to input when the input voltage drops below the output.
