The TPS63805YFFR is a Texas Instruments high-efficiency 3A buck-boost converter with I2C interface for dynamic voltage scaling. It operates from 2.5V to 5.5V input, seamlessly transitioning between buck and boost modes to maintain regulation when the battery voltage is above, below, or near the output voltage. The I2C interface allows the host processor to dynamically adjust the output voltage for DVFS (Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling) in portable processors. Up to 93% efficiency is achieved through integrated MOSFETs and optimized switching. The 1.5MHz switching frequency minimizes inductor and capacitor sizes. The tiny 2.4×1.7mm DSBGA package is ideal for space-constrained portable applications.

The TPS63805 uses a 4-switch buck-boost topology with integrated MOSFETs. The controller monitors VIN vs VOUT and automatically selects the optimal operating mode. In buck mode (VIN > VOUT), switches A and B operate as a synchronous buck. In boost mode (VIN < VOUT), switches C and D operate as a synchronous boost. In buck-boost mode (VIN near VOUT), all four switches operate. The I2C interface writes to internal registers to set the output voltage, enabling on-the-fly voltage adjustment for DVFS without external resistor changes. The control loop uses current-mode PWM for stability across all operating modes with internal compensation.

20-pin DSBGA with bumps for: VIN, VOUT, SW1/SW2 (switch nodes), EN, SDA/SCL (I2C), PG, FB, GND, and thermal bumps. Refer to datasheet for complete bump map.
