The TPS62147 is a high-efficiency synchronous step-down DC-DC converter from Texas Instruments, based on the proprietary DCS-Control topology. It features a wide input voltage range of 3V to 17V, making it suitable for multi-cell lithium-ion battery packs and 12V intermediate power rails. The device delivers up to 2A of continuous output current with an adjustable output voltage from 0.8V to 12V. In PWM mode, it achieves ±1% output voltage accuracy across the specified junction temperature range. The converter automatically enters power-save mode under light-load conditions, maintaining high efficiency across the entire load range. The FSEL pin allows selection of forced PWM switching frequency at either 1.25MHz or 2.5MHz. Housed in a compact 3mm x 2mm VQFN-HR package with 11 pins, it offers excellent thermal performance and minimal board footprint.

The TPS62147 employs DCS-Control (Direct Control with Seamless transition) topology, which combines voltage-mode control with a current-loop emulator for superior transient response. The control loop operates in PWM mode at medium to heavy loads, switching at the selected frequency (1.25MHz or 2.5MHz). Under light-load conditions, the device transitions seamlessly into PFM mode via Auto Efficiency Enhancement (AEE), adjusting switching frequency based on output current and voltage conditions to maximize efficiency. The precision enable input with adjustable UVLO threshold allows user-defined power-up sequencing. The 100% duty cycle mode enables the high-side MOSFET to remain fully on, minimizing dropout voltage for low-input applications. Overcurrent protection uses a hiccup scheme to limit thermal stress during fault conditions.
