The TPS564201DDCR from Texas Instruments is a 4A synchronous step-down converter in an ultra-compact SOT-23-6 package. The device operates from 4.5V to 17V input and provides an adjustable output from 0.768V to 7.0V at up to 4A. The 600kHz switching frequency allows use of small inductors and capacitors. With integrated power MOSFETs, the design requires only an inductor and output capacitor as external components. The 0.768V feedback reference has 1% accuracy over temperature. Protection features include internal soft-start (1.2ms), overcurrent protection (OCP), output overvoltage protection (OVP), and thermal shutdown. The device operates from -40C to +125C.

The TPS564201DDCR uses a DCAP2 control topology for fast transient response. (1) DCAP2 Control: A constant on-time control with internal compensation provides fast transient response without external compensation components. The on-time is adjusted by the input voltage to maintain approximately 600kHz switching frequency. (2) Power Stage: Integrated high-side and low-side N-channel MOSFETs provide synchronous rectification with up to 4A output. The low-side MOSFET operates in forced continuous conduction mode (CCM) for predictable output ripple. (3) Soft-Start: Internal 1.2ms soft-start ramps the output voltage to prevent inrush current. (4) Protection: Cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection limits the high-side switch current. Output overvoltage protection turns off the high-side MOSFET when VOUT exceeds the setpoint by 10%. Thermal shutdown disables the converter at approximately 155C junction temperature.
