The TPS563249DDCR is a Texas Instruments 3A synchronous step-down converter in an ultra-compact 6-pin SOT-23-THN package. The 4.5V to 17V input range covers 5V and 12V distributed bus architectures. The integrated 70mohm high-side and 30mohm low-side MOSFETs deliver 3A continuous output with high efficiency. D-CAP3 control provides fast transient response with no external compensation, supporting low-ESR ceramic and polymer output capacitors. The forced continuous conduction mode (FCCM) maintains constant 1.4MHz switching frequency at all loads, eliminating variable-frequency EMI that complicates system noise filtering. The +/-1% feedback voltage accuracy over temperature provides tight output regulation for digital loads. The 1.7ms internal soft-start limits inrush current during startup. Cycle-by-cycle peak current limit and hiccup-mode overcurrent protection handle sustained overloads. Undervoltage and thermal shutdown provide additional fault handling. The low 10uA shutdown current minimizes battery drain when disabled. The 6-pin SOT-23-THN package occupies only 4.6mm2 of board area. Packaged in SOT-23-6 rated for -40C to +125C junction.

The TPS563249 uses D-CAP3 (Direct Control with Adaptive On-Time, 3rd generation) control topology. D-CAP3 is an adaptive constant on-time control with a virtual inductor current ripple emulator and internal compensation. The on-time is inversely proportional to VIN and directly proportional to VOUT, maintaining approximately 1.4MHz switching frequency. The internal ripple injection circuit adds a synthetic ramp to the FB pin signal, providing the PWM ramp without requiring output voltage ripple. This allows the use of very low-ESR ceramic output capacitors while maintaining stability. The error amplifier in D-CAP3 provides DC accuracy with internal Type-2 compensation that covers a wide range of L-C output filter values. In FCCM, the low-side MOSFET is always driven, allowing negative inductor current at light loads and maintaining constant frequency. The peak current limit comparator monitors the high-side FET current each cycle. When the current limit is exceeded for 128 consecutive cycles, hiccup-mode protection disables switching for a recovery period, limiting average power dissipation during faults.
