The TPS53318DQ from Texas Instruments is a high-efficiency 8A synchronous buck converter using D-CAP mode control with adaptive on-time. It supports wide input (1.5V-22V) to low output (0.6V-5.5V) conversion, making it ideal for point-of-load regulation in servers and telecom. Eight preset switching frequencies (250kHz-970kHz) are selected via RF pin resistor. No external phase compensation is needed. Auto-skip mode improves light-load efficiency while FCCM mode provides constant frequency.

D-CAP mode uses adaptive on-time control with output voltage directly compared to the reference via a comparator. No error amplifier means no external compensation. The on-time is adaptively adjusted based on VIN and VOUT to maintain near-constant frequency. The MODE pin selects between auto-skip (pulse skipping at light load) and FCCM (continuous conduction at all loads). The internal low-side MOSFET provides synchronous rectification.
