The TPS53317ARGBR from Texas Instruments is the tape-and-reel (3000-unit) version of the TPS53317A 6A DDR termination synchronous step-down converter. The R suffix at the end denotes tape and reel packaging with 3000 units per reel, as opposed to the T suffix which indicates a mini-reel of 250 units. The device is electrically and mechanically identical to the TPS53317ARGBT. The TPS53317A is a FET-integrated synchronous buck regulator designed primarily for DDR memory termination applications. It provides a regulated output at 1/2 VDDQ with both source and sink current capability up to 6A, making it suitable for DDR, DDR2, DDR3, DDR3L, and DDR4 VTT rails. The D-CAP+ mode provides fast transient response with DC compensation for accurate output regulation. The device can also be used as a general-purpose POL converter for 1V to 6V input rails requiring up to 6A output current with output voltage adjustable from 0.6V to 2V.

The TPS53317ARGBR operates identically to the TPS53317ARGBT. The D-CAP+ control mode combines the fast transient response of constant-on-time control with DC compensation that eliminates the output voltage offset. The converter tracks an external reference voltage on the REFIN pin (typically 1/2 VDDQ), maintaining the DDR termination voltage at the correct level. The bidirectional output stage supports both sourcing and sinking 6A, which is required for DDR VTT termination where the regulator must absorb current when the bus is driven high and supply current when the bus is driven low. The selectable switching frequency (600kHz or 1MHz) and mode (auto-skip or forced CCM) provide design flexibility for efficiency optimization or noise reduction.
