The Texas Instruments TPS2557QDRBTQ1 is an AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified automotive smart power switch (eFuse) providing precision adjustable current limiting from 0.5A to 5A with integrated reverse-current blocking. The device operates from a 2.5V to 6.5V input range and features a low 33 mOhm RDS(ON) power MOSFET for minimal voltage drop and power dissipation. The ILM pin provides an analog output voltage proportional to the load current, enabling real-time current monitoring without an external sense resistor. When the load current exceeds the programmed threshold, the device limits the current and eventually enters thermal shutdown if the overload persists. Reverse-current blocking prevents current flow from the output back to the input during fault conditions, protecting upstream circuitry. The VSON-8 package with exposed thermal pad provides efficient heat dissipation for the 5A current rating.

The TPS2557QDRBTQ1 integrates a high-side N-channel power MOSFET with an internal charge pump for gate drive, current sensing, and protection circuits. An external resistor (RILM) connected from the ILM pin to GND sets the current limit threshold: Ilim = K / RILM, where K is an internal constant. An internal sense amplifier measures the load current through the MOSFET by sensing the voltage across a precision internal resistor. When the load current exceeds the set threshold, a regulation loop limits the MOSFET gate voltage to maintain constant current, clamping the output voltage. The ILM pin also provides a voltage proportional to the measured current (VILM = Iload x RILM x K2), allowing the host MCU to monitor real-time power consumption. The reverse-current comparator monitors the voltage difference between IN and OUT; when VOUT > VIN by approximately 15 mV, the MOSFET turns off within 1 microsecond, blocking reverse current. The thermal shutdown circuit disables the MOSFET when the junction temperature exceeds 140°C (typical) and automatically recovers when the temperature drops below the hysteresis threshold.
