The SST26VF016B-104I/SN from Microchip Technology is a 16Mbit (2MB) Serial Quad I/O (SQI) Flash memory device supporting standard SPI and Quad SPI modes with 104MHz maximum clock frequency. In SQI mode, data is transferred on 4 pins simultaneously, achieving 416Mbps effective throughput for fast code execution via execute-in-place (XIP). The device features uniform 4KB sectors for flexible data management, fast erase times (18ms sector, 35ms chip), and 100K minimum erase cycle endurance. The 104I suffix denotes 104MHz speed grade with industrial temperature range, and SN denotes SOIC-8 package.

The SST26VF016B-104I/SN operates as a serial Quad I/O Flash memory. (1) The memory array is organized as 512 uniform 4KB sectors. In standard SPI mode, data is transferred serially on one data pin at up to 104MHz. In SQI mode, address and data are transferred on 4 pins simultaneously, quadrupling the effective data rate to 416Mbps. (2) Read operations in SQI mode can achieve XIP (execute-in-place) performance suitable for direct MCU code execution without shadowing to RAM. The 4KB uniform sectors allow fine-grained storage management, while 32KB and 64KB blocks enable efficient bulk erase. (3) Write operations follow the standard Flash sequence: write-enable command, then page-program command (up to 256 bytes per program). The fast 18ms sector erase and 35ms chip erase times minimize system downtime during firmware updates. The global block protection unlock command simplifies production programming.
