The SP3003-04ATG from Littelfuse is a 4-channel Silicon Protection Array (SPA) utilizing proprietary silicon avalanche technology to provide ultra-low capacitance rail-to-rail ESD protection for high-speed signal lines. With only 0.65 pF typical capacitance per I/O channel, the device preserves signal integrity on interfaces operating at multi-gigabit data rates including HDMI, DVI, USB 2.0, and IEEE 1394. The device safely absorbs repetitive ESD strikes at the maximum IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 (±8 kV contact, ±15 kV air) without performance degradation. It also provides EFT protection to 40 A (IEC 61000-4-4) and lightning protection to 2.5 A (IEC 61000-4-5, 8/20 μs). AEC-Q101 qualified, the SP3003-04ATG is suitable for automotive and industrial applications.

The SP3003-04ATG uses Littelfuse’s proprietary silicon avalanche (SPA) technology to protect each I/O channel. (1) ESD Clamping: When an ESD event exceeds the breakdown voltage (6.5 V min), the avalanche diodes rapidly conduct, clamping the voltage at the I/O pin to a safe level (11.8 V typical at 2 A). The rail-to-rail topology steers both positive and negative ESD transients to the VCC and GND rails respectively. (2) Low Capacitance: The ultra-low 0.65 pF per-channel capacitance is achieved through specialized diode structures and layout optimization, ensuring minimal signal degradation on high-speed differential pairs. (3) Bidirectional Protection: Symmetric avalanche characteristics provide equal protection against positive and negative transients, making the device suitable for AC-coupled and bidirectional signal lines. (4) Steer Diodes: Additional steering diodes between I/O pins and the supply rails ensure that ESD energy is diverted to the power supply bypass capacitors rather than the protected IC.
