The Microchip PIC18F26K40-I/SS is a high-performance 8-bit microcontroller from the PIC18K42/K40 family, offering 64 KB Flash, 3.6 KB SRAM, and 1 KB EEPROM in a compact 28-pin SSOP package. Operating at up to 64 MHz with 16 MIPS throughput, it integrates advanced peripherals including a 12-bit ADC with computation (ADC2) that performs hardware averaging, threshold comparison, and oversampling without CPU intervention. The 2-channel DMA controller further offloads the CPU by handling data transfers between peripherals and memory. Peripheral Pin Select (PPS) provides flexible pin mapping, allowing designers to optimize PCB layout by routing serial interfaces and PWM outputs to any available I/O pin.

The PIC18F26K40-I/SS is based on the enhanced PIC18 core with a 16-bit instruction word and linear program memory addressing up to 2 MB. The CPU executes instructions at up to 16 MIPS with a 64 MHz internal oscillator or external clock source. The 12-bit ADC2 module performs analog-to-digital conversion with hardware computation capabilities including accumulator-based averaging, digital filtering, threshold detection, and oversampling up to 16x, all without CPU intervention. The 2-channel DMA controller transfers data between peripherals and SRAM autonomously. PPS allows remapping of most digital peripheral functions (UART TX/RX, SPI SCK/SDI/SDO, I2C SDA/SCL, PWM outputs, etc.) to any of the 23 I/O pins through crossbar switch registers. The Complementary Waveform Generator (CWG) produces complementary PWM signals with dead-band control for half-bridge and full-bridge motor drive applications.
