The device features 450mV typical dropout voltage at 150mA, 100uA typical quiescent current, and withstands 45V input transients for automotive environments. The watchdog and wakeup functions enable microprocessor sleep-mode management for reduced battery drain. The reset output is asserted during power-up, output undervoltage, or watchdog timeout. The NCV prefix indicates automotive qualification with AEC compliance and PPAP capability. The PDR2G suffix denotes SOIC-8 with exposed pad and tape and reel packaging.
The NCV8518BPDR2G operates as an automotive LDO regulator with MCU supervisory functions. (1) The regulator uses a PNP pass transistor to achieve low dropout voltage (450mV typical at 150mA). The output voltage is set to 5.0V +/-2% by an internal bandgap reference and resistor divider. The 45V transient withstand is achieved through a high-voltage PNP pass element that can survive brief overvoltage events common in automotive battery systems. (2) The wakeup function generates a periodic square wave output from VOUT with 50% duty cycle at a frequency set by the external RDELAY resistor. This signal interrupts the MCU from sleep mode. The MCU responds with a falling-edge pulse on the WDI (watchdog input) pin. If the watchdog signal is not received within one wakeup period, the reset output is asserted. (3) The reset output is asserted low during four conditions: power-up (VOUT below regulation), output undervoltage, watchdog timeout, and input undervoltage. After the fault condition clears, the reset remains low for a delay period set by RDELAY, then goes high. The enable pin provides logic-level shutdown control with less than 1uA shutdown current.
