The NCL30160DR2G is an onsemi NFET hysteretic step-down constant-current LED driver in an SOIC-8 package. The device integrates a 1.0A / 50mOhm N-channel MOSFET and operates from 6.3V to 40V input, making it suitable for 12V/24V automotive and general lighting applications. The hysteretic control scheme provides excellent power supply rejection and fast response during load transients and PWM dimming, without requiring any control loop compensation. The LED current is set by a single external sense resistor from the CS pins to ground, with the hysteretic comparator maintaining the current within a programmed window. The dedicated DIM/EN pin enables wide-range PWM dimming by toggling the internal MOSFET on and off, and also serves as an enable/disable control. The switching frequency can be adjusted up to 1.4MHz via an external off-time setting resistor, allowing the use of small inductors and capacitors. Note: This product is in Last Shipments status and is being discontinued.

The NCL30160DR2G uses a hysteretic (ripple-based) constant-current control scheme. The LED current flows through the external sense resistor (RSENSE) connected between the CS pins and ground. When the current through RSENSE exceeds the upper threshold (approximately 115mV/RSENSE), the internal MOSFET turns off and the inductor current freewheels through the external catch diode, decreasing through the LED string. When the sense voltage falls below the lower threshold (approximately 100mV/RSENSE), the MOSFET turns on again, ramping the inductor current up. The hysteresis window determines the LED current ripple, typically 15% peak-to-peak. The off-time is set by the ROT resistor connected from the ROT pin to VCC, which determines the switching frequency. The DIM/EN pin accepts a logic-level PWM signal for brightness control while maintaining the hysteretic current regulation during on-periods.
