The Nuvoton N76E616AL48 is a high-speed 1T 8051 microcontroller with an integrated LCD driver designed for applications requiring segment LCD display control. The LCD driver supports up to 6×30 (180 segments) COM/SEG configurations, eliminating the need for an external LCD driver IC and reducing BOM cost. The 1T 8051 core executes instructions in a single clock cycle, providing up to 16 MIPS at 16 MHz compared to 12 clocks per instruction on standard 8051. The 18 KB Flash provides sufficient code space for display rendering, sensor interfacing, and control algorithms, while the 8-channel 12-bit ADC supports multi-sensor measurement. The 5-channel enhanced 16-bit PWM with auto-reload is suitable for LED backlight dimming, motor speed control, and power converter feedback. ISP (In-System Programming) allows firmware updates without removing the device from the board.

The N76E616AL48 uses a 1T (single-cycle) 8051 core that executes most instructions in 1-2 clock cycles, compared to 12 cycles on the original 80C51. The core is fully instruction-set compatible with the standard 8051, allowing use of existing 8051 development tools and code bases. The integrated LCD driver generates the segment and common drive waveforms for multiplexed LCD panels, supporting 1/3 bias or 1/4 bias drive modes. The LCD display memory is mapped into the SFR (Special Function Register) address space, where each bit corresponds to one LCD segment; setting a bit turns on the corresponding segment. The 12-bit ADC uses a successive approximation register architecture with a programmable acquisition time, supporting both single-channel and auto-scan conversion modes. The enhanced 16-bit PWM modules feature auto-reload capability, center-aligned mode, and dead-time generation for motor drive applications. The ISP bootloader in the LDROM (Loader ROM) area enables firmware updates via UART without a dedicated programmer, while ICP (In-Circuit Programming) provides debug and production programming through a 2-wire interface.
