The MT3608 from Aerosemi is a compact and cost-effective step-up (boost) DC-DC converter with an integrated 1.2A N-channel MOSFET. Operating from 2V to 24V input, it can boost the voltage up to 28V output using a fixed 1.2MHz switching frequency. The current-mode control architecture provides fast transient response and stable operation. With efficiency up to 93% and a shutdown current below 1uA, it is widely used in battery-powered boost applications, USB power banks, and bias supply generation for displays.

The MT3608 employs a current-mode boost converter architecture. **Power Stage**: The internal N-channel MOSFET switches at 1.2MHz, storing energy in an external inductor during the on-time and releasing it to the output through an external Schottky diode during the off-time. **Control Loop**: Current-mode control compares the peak inductor current against the error amplifier output. This architecture provides inherent cycle-by-cycle current limiting and simplifies loop compensation. The output voltage is set by an external resistor divider connected to the FB pin (reference 0.6V). **Soft-Start**: Internal soft-start gradually increases the current limit during startup, preventing excessive inrush current that could damage the input supply or cause output overshoot. **Protection**: Under-voltage lockout (UVLO) prevents operation when input voltage drops below approximately 1.6V. Thermal shutdown protects the device when junction temperature exceeds safe limits.
