The MSP430FG4618IPZ from Texas Instruments is an ultra-low-power 16-bit MSP430 microcontroller with 116KB Flash and 8KB RAM in a LQFP-100 package. The FG461x series integrates precision analog peripherals including a 12-bit 200ksps ADC, dual 12-bit DAC, and three internal configurable op-amps that can be connected to external pins or routed internally, eliminating external signal conditioning ICs. A segment LCD driver supports up to 160 segments for direct display interface. Multiple low-power modes include Standby (LPM3) at 1.1uA with RTC active and Off (LPM4) at 0.1uA. The device operates at up to 8MHz with 16-bit RISC architecture providing efficient code density.

The MSP430FG4618IPZ uses TI’s MSP430 ultra-low-power architecture with integrated precision analog. (1) CPU: A 16-bit RISC core executes most instructions in one clock cycle at up to 8MHz. The von Neumann architecture with 16 registers provides efficient code density. (2) Low-Power Modes: Six low-power modes progressively disable CPU, clocks, and peripherals. LPM3 (standby with RTC) consumes 1.1uA. A fast 6us wakeup from LPM3 to active mode enables event-driven processing. (3) Internal Op-Amps: Three general-purpose op-amps can be configured as non-inverting, inverting, or differential amplifiers with internal feedback resistors, and can drive the ADC or DAC directly without external connections. (4) LCD Driver: The integrated LCD driver generates segment and common waveforms for direct connection to static or multiplexed LCD glass.
