The MIC94094YC6 from Microchip Technology (formerly Micrel) is a high-side load switch designed for 1.7V to 5.5V operation, featuring an internal 130mOhm RDS(ON) P-channel MOSFET that supports up to 1.2A continuous current. The MIC94094 variant provides 120us soft-start turn-on to control inrush current, preventing supply voltage dips during power rail switching. The device supports 1.5V logic level control for direct interface with low-voltage GPIO. The ultra-low quiescent current and micro-power shutdown current make it ideal for battery-powered portable devices. The YC6 suffix denotes SC-70-6 package.

The MIC94094YC6 operates as a high-side P-channel MOSFET load switch. (1) The internal P-channel MOSFET connects the input voltage (VIN) to the output (VOUT) when enabled. The 130mOhm RDS(ON) minimizes voltage drop and power dissipation at 1.2A load. The P-channel architecture eliminates the need for a boost converter or charge pump, simplifying the design. (2) The 120us soft-start feature controls the slew rate of the output voltage during turn-on. This limits inrush current into capacitive loads, preventing supply voltage droops that could affect other circuits. The soft-start time is internally set at 120us for the MIC94094 variant. (3) The enable input is compatible with 1.5V logic levels, allowing direct control from low-voltage MCU GPIO. An internal level shift circuit translates the low-voltage control signal to the gate drive voltage required for the P-channel MOSFET. In shutdown mode, the MOSFET is off and quiescent current drops to micro-power levels.
