The MIC5219-2.8YM5-TR from Microchip Technology is a 500mA low-dropout voltage regulator with a fixed 2.8V output. It combines ultra-low noise (50 nV/√Hz) with high PSRR (70 dB @ 1 kHz), making it ideal for RF transceiver and noise-sensitive analog power supply applications. The device features an enable pin with near-zero shutdown current, active output pulldown, and stability with ceramic capacitors.

The MIC5219 uses a PNP pass transistor in a common-emitter configuration, which allows the very low dropout voltage. A bandgap reference provides a stable voltage that is compared with a fraction of the output by the error amplifier. The error amplifier drives the PNP pass transistor to maintain output regulation. The enable pin controls the bias circuitry, reducing quiescent current to <0.01 µA in shutdown. Current limiting is implemented by sensing pass transistor current, and thermal shutdown protects against excessive junction temperature.
