The MAX17048G+ is an ultra-low power 1-cell lithium battery fuel gauge from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) using the ModelGauge algorithm to track state-of-charge (SOC) without a current-sense resistor. With 3uA hibernate current and 23uA active current, it provides accurate fuel gauging via I2C interface in a tiny 8-pin TDFN package.

The MAX17048G+ is an ultra-low power 1-cell lithium battery fuel gauge from Analog Devices using the proprietary ModelGauge algorithm to track battery state-of-charge continuously without a current-sense resistor or battery learn cycles. With 3uA hibernate current and 23uA active current, it automatically enters and exits low-power modes. The I2C interface provides access to SOC, voltage, and rate data. The tiny 2x2mm TDFN package makes it ideal for space-constrained portable devices.

The MAX17048 uses the ModelGauge algorithm which models the lithium-ion battery’s open-circuit voltage (OCV) curve. By continuously measuring the cell voltage and comparing it to the OCV model, the device calculates state-of-charge without coulomb counting. This approach eliminates the accumulated errors inherent in traditional coulomb counters and removes the need for a current-sense resistor. The device automatically detects low-current states and enters 3uA hibernate mode while still tracking SOC. Configurable alerts can interrupt the host when battery levels reach critical thresholds.
