The LT1761ES5-5#TRPBF is an Analog Devices micropower low-noise 150mA LDO regulator with fixed 5V output in a 5-lead SOT-23 package. The standout feature is the 10uVrms output noise over the 10Hz to 100kHz bandwidth, making it one of the quietest LDOs available for noise-sensitive analog and RF applications such as VCO power, GPS receivers, and high-resolution ADC references. The 20uA quiescent current minimizes battery drain in portable instruments, while the 1uA shutdown current preserves battery life in sleep modes. The 300mV typical dropout voltage at full load allows operation from a 5.3V minimum input. A single 0.01uF bypass capacitor on the BYP pin reduces output noise to the specified 10uVrms level. The input range extends to 20V for wide-input-rail applications. The device uses an internal PNP pass transistor for low dropout, with current limit and thermal shutdown protection. Packaged in 5-lead SOT-23 rated for -40C to +125C.

The LT1761 uses a PNP pass transistor for low dropout operation. The error amplifier compares a resistive divider tap of the output voltage with an internal 5V bandgap reference, driving the PNP pass transistor to maintain regulation. The low 20uA quiescent current is achieved through careful biasing of the internal reference and error amplifier. The ultra-low 10uVrms output noise is achieved by using a low-noise reference and a single-pole RC filter on the BYP pin. The BYP pin connects to the internal reference through an internal resistor; adding an external 0.01uF capacitor to ground creates a low-pass filter that filters reference noise before it reaches the error amplifier. This noise reduction technique preserves the reference accuracy while dramatically reducing the output noise spectral density. The shutdown pin disables the pass transistor and most internal circuitry, reducing supply current to 1uA.
