The ADUM1401ARWZ-RL is an Analog Devices quad-channel digital isolator providing 2500Vrms galvanic isolation with 4 unidirectional channels in a 3/1 direction configuration (3 channels from side 1 to side 2, 1 channel from side 2 to side 1). This channel arrangement is optimized for isolated SPI interfaces where MOSI, SCLK, and CS flow from MCU to peripheral, while MISO returns in the opposite direction. The iCoupler magnetic isolation technology eliminates optocoupler limitations, providing better reliability, higher speed (150Mbps), and lower power consumption. The 2.7V to 5.5V supply range on each side supports level translation between different voltage domains. The >5kV/us CMTI ensures reliable operation in noisy environments with fast voltage transients. The 0.8mA per channel quiescent current is significantly lower than optocouplers. Safety certifications include UL 1577, CSA, and VDE. The -RL suffix indicates tape-and-reel packaging.

The ADUM1401 uses ADIs iCoupler technology with four independent micro-transformer isolation channels fabricated in planar CMOS process. Each channel consists of a transmitter on one side that encodes the input logic level into high-frequency pulses, which cross the polyimide-insulated transformer core to the receiver on the opposite side. The receiver decodes the pulses back to the original logic level. The 3 forward channels pass signals from VDD1 to VDD2, while the 1 reverse channel passes a signal from VDD2 to VDD1. The transformers provide galvanic isolation rated at 2500Vrms for 60 seconds per UL 1577, with minimum 8mm creepage and clearance in the wide-body SOIC package. The default output state when input power is removed is determined by the failsafe logic. The low quiescent current results from the efficient pulse-encoding scheme that only transmits during edge transitions.
