The Texas Instruments LMR33630ADDAR is a 3A synchronous step-down converter with a wide 3.8V to 36V input range, making it suitable for industrial, automotive, and communications applications powered from 5V, 12V, or 24V bus rails. The integrated 75 mOhm high-side and 50 mOhm low-side MOSFETs achieve peak efficiency above 95%, eliminating external FETs and reducing solution footprint. Three switching frequency options (400 kHz, 1.4 MHz, 2.1 MHz) allow designers to trade off efficiency against inductor size—the 2.1 MHz option enables compact designs with small ceramic capacitors and low-profile inductors. The 68 ns minimum on-time supports high step-down ratios at high frequencies (e.g., 24V to 1V at 2.1 MHz). The HotRod QFN package minimizes EMI by routing the switching current paths internally, reducing the loop area that causes radiated emissions. The 25 uA operating quiescent current in PFM mode maintains high efficiency at light loads. Functional safety documentation is available for systems requiring IEC 61508 compliance. The device includes power-good output, precision enable threshold, and pre-bias start-up capability.

The LMR33630 uses peak-current-mode control with a high-side current-sense comparator that monitors the inductor current through the integrated high-side MOSFET. The error amplifier compares the output voltage (sensed at the FB pin through a resistor divider) with the internal 1V reference and generates a control voltage that sets the peak inductor current. The internal oscillator generates the switching clock, and the PWM comparator trips when the sensed current reaches the control voltage, turning off the high-side FET and turning on the low-side FET. At light loads, the device automatically enters pulse-frequency modulation (PFM) mode, skipping switching cycles to reduce switching losses and maintain efficiency above 80% at loads below 10 mA. The integrated compensation network eliminates the need for external compensation components, simplifying design. The 68 ns minimum on-time allows high step-down ratios without pulse skipping, even at 2.1 MHz switching frequency. The power-good (PG) flag indicates when the output is within 90-110% of the target voltage, enabling downstream circuits to be released from reset in a controlled sequence.
