The LMR10510XMF/NOPB from Texas Instruments is a high-frequency step-down DC-DC converter optimized for point-of-load applications where board space is at a premium. The 1MHz switching frequency allows the use of chip inductors and low-ESR ceramic output capacitors, resulting in a minimal solution footprint. The X suffix denotes a fixed 1.8V output version, eliminating the need for an external feedback resistor divider. The device integrates a 1A P-channel MOSFET switch and uses current-mode PWM control with internal loop compensation. An internal soft-start circuit limits inrush current during startup. The 2.7V to 5.5V input range accommodates single-cell Li-ion, 3.3V, and 5V input rails.

The LMR10510X employs a current-mode PWM buck topology with an integrated P-channel MOSFET as the high-side switch. The internal oscillator generates a 1MHz clock. During each switching cycle, the internal P-MOSFET connects the input voltage to the inductor, storing energy and charging the output capacitor. When the switch turns off, the inductor current freewheels through the external Schottky catch diode. The current-mode control loop monitors the inductor current on a cycle-by-cycle basis, using the error amplifier output to set the peak current threshold. Since the output voltage is fixed at 1.8V internally, no external feedback divider is required. Internal compensation stabilizes the control loop for typical application circuits.
