The LM5117PMHX/NOPB is a Texas Instruments wide-input synchronous buck controller designed for step-down regulation from high-voltage or widely varying input supplies. The 5.5V to 65V input range supports automotive 12V/24V/48V bus and industrial 48V systems. The emulated peak current-mode control reduces noise sensitivity while providing inherent line feed-forward and cycle-by-cycle current limiting. The 3.3A peak gate drives external N-channel MOSFETs with adaptive dead-time control for up to 20A output current. The unique analog current monitor output provides real-time average output current telemetry for power management and current limiting. A programmable switching frequency of 50kHz to 750kHz can be synchronized to an external clock. Diode emulation mode improves light-load efficiency. The AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification supports automotive applications to 125C. Packaged in 20-pin HTSSOP with exposed thermal pad.

The LM5117 uses emulated current-mode control where an internal ramp generator emulates the inductor current ramp, eliminating the need for direct current sensing while reducing noise sensitivity at high input voltages. The emulated ramp is combined with the actual current sense signal from the external sense resistor or MOSFET RDS(on) to create a composite PWM comparator input. This allows reliable control of very small duty cycles in high step-down ratio applications. The high-side and low-side gate drivers use adaptive dead-time control, preventing shoot-through while minimizing body diode conduction losses. The analog current monitor (IMON pin) outputs a voltage proportional to average output current, enabling power metering and precision current limiting. The bias regulator generates VCC from VIN, with automatic switchover to an external bias supply for efficiency improvement. Hiccup mode current limit reduces thermal stress during sustained overloads.

20-pin HTSSOP with key pins: VIN (input), VCC (bias output), BOOT (bootstrap), HO/LO (high/low gate drives), SW (switch node), FB (feedback), COMP (error amp output), IMON (current monitor), RT (frequency set), SS (soft-start), UVLO (undervoltage lockout), DEM (diode emulation), EN (enable), AGND/PGND (grounds), and thermal pad.
