The LM358BIDR is Texas Instruments’ enhanced version of the classic LM358 dual operational amplifier. It maintains pin-to-pin compatibility while offering significant improvements: wider 36V supply range (vs 30V), 1.2MHz gain bandwidth (vs 0.7MHz), 3mV max offset voltage (vs 7mV), and integrated EMI/RF filtering for robustness in electrically noisy environments. The common-mode input range includes ground, enabling direct sensing near the negative rail without additional bias circuitry. Each amplifier channel draws only 300µA typical quiescent current, making it suitable for battery-powered applications. The 2000V HBM ESD rating and internal filtering allow deployment in harsh industrial environments where the original LM358 would be marginal.

The LM358BIDR uses a bipolar input stage with internal bias-current cancellation to achieve 35nA maximum input bias current while maintaining low offset. The common-mode input range extends to ground (V-) without phase reversal, a critical feature for single-supply applications. The output stage is designed to drive capacitive loads without oscillation when properly compensated. The integrated EMI filter at the input pins rejects high-frequency interference from 10MHz to several GHz, preventing RF rectification artifacts that could appear as DC offset shifts in the original LM358. Unity-gain stability is ensured by internal compensation, and the output can swing to within a few millivolts of ground when sinking current.
