The LM2576T-12 from TI is a SIMPLE SWITCHER step-down voltage regulator providing a fixed 12V output at up to 3A. It integrates a 150kHz oscillator, voltage reference, and power switch, requiring only four external components. Protection features include thermal shutdown, current limiting, and a shutdown pin that reduces quiescent current to 50uA.

The LM2576T-12 uses a fixed-frequency buck converter topology. The internal NPN Darlington power switch connects VIN to the output inductor at 150kHz. The error amplifier and PWM controller adjust the duty cycle to maintain 12V regulation. When the switch turns off, the catch diode provides a return path for inductor current. The shutdown pin disables the oscillator and power switch.
