The ISO7231CDWR from Texas Instruments is a triple-channel high-speed digital isolator featuring 2 forward and 1 reverse unidirectional channels with 2.5kV rms galvanic isolation. Using TI proprietary SiO2 capacitive isolation technology, the device provides 25Mbps data rate with only 42ns maximum propagation delay and 2.5ns maximum pulse width distortion. The 25kV/us minimum common-mode transient immunity ensures reliable operation in electrically noisy industrial environments. Both sides operate from 3.15V to 5.5V, enabling level translation between 3.3V and 5V logic domains. The failsafe output defaults to logic high when the input is unpowered or undriven, preventing false data transmission.

The ISO7231CDWR operates using TI SiO2 capacitive isolation technology. (1) Each channel consists of a CMOS encoder on the input side that modulates the digital signal into high-frequency pulses, which are coupled across the SiO2 isolation barrier by on-chip capacitors. The decoder on the output side reconstructs the original digital signal. (2) The two forward channels carry signals from side 1 to side 2, while the one reverse channel carries a signal from side 2 to side 1, enabling bidirectional communication such as SPI (SCLK, MOSI forward, MISO reverse). (3) A periodic refresh mechanism continuously sends update pulses across the barrier to maintain correct DC output levels. If the refresh pulse is not received, the failsafe circuit drives the output to logic high.
