The ISO7131CCDBQR from Texas Instruments is a quad-channel digital isolator with 5000Vrms reinforced isolation rating in an SSOP-16 package. The 3 forward + 1 reverse channel configuration is ideal for isolating SPI buses (SCLK, MOSI, CS forward; MISO reverse) with a single device. The 150 Mbps data rate supports high-speed digital communication including SPI clock rates up to 75 MHz. The 10 ns typical propagation delay and 2 ns pulse width distortion maintain signal integrity for timing-sensitive protocols. The 5000 Vrms isolation rating and 1200 Vpeak working voltage meet reinforced isolation requirements for industrial and medical equipment. The C grade specifies -40C to +125C operating temperature. Multiple safety approvals (UL1577, VDE 0884-10, CSA, TUV, CQC) simplify system certification. The device uses TI’s silicon dioxide (SiO2) isolation barrier for long-term reliability.

The ISO7131CCDBQR uses TI’s capacitive isolation technology with an on-off keying (OOK) modulation scheme. Each channel consists of a transmitter on one side of the isolation barrier and a receiver on the other. The transmitter modulates the input digital signal onto a high-frequency carrier (approximately 600 MHz) using OOK: when the input is HIGH, the carrier is on; when LOW, the carrier is off. The modulated signal crosses the silicon dioxide (SiO2) capacitive isolation barrier, which provides galvanic isolation while coupling the high-frequency AC signal. The receiver demodulates the signal by detecting the presence or absence of the carrier. The 10 ns propagation delay includes the modulation, capacitive coupling, and demodulation latency. The SiO2 isolation barrier has a breakdown voltage exceeding 12 kV, providing the 5000 Vrms (1 minute) rating with significant margin. The 2 ns pulse width distortion results from symmetric rise/fall path matching in the receiver. Each side has independent supply rails (VCC1/VCC2), allowing level translation between different voltage domains.
