The ISO3088DWR is a Texas Instruments isolated half-duplex RS-485 and RS-422 transceiver capable of data rates up to 20 Mbps. It integrates galvanic isolation rated at 2500 V RMS per UL 1577, breaking the ground loop to allow a much larger common-mode voltage range for long transmission lines. The device features 1/8 unit load enabling up to 256 nodes on a single bus, fail-safe receiver operation, thermal shutdown protection, and 12-kV HBM ESD protection between bus pins and GND2. It is qualified for use from -40°C to +85°C in an SOIC-16 package.

The ISO3088DWR operates as an isolated half-duplex transceiver with two subsystems: (1) The logic-side interface, powered by VCC1 (3.15-5.5V), handles driver input (DI), receiver output (RO), and direction control (DE/RE). (2) The bus-side transceiver, powered by VCC2 (4.5-5.5V), drives the differential bus lines A and B. The galvanic isolation barrier between the two sides is implemented using capacitive coupling technology, providing 2500 V RMS isolation and 25 kV/µs minimum common-mode transient immunity. The driver converts single-ended logic signals into differential outputs on the bus, while the receiver converts differential bus signals back to single-ended logic levels. Fail-safe logic ensures the receiver output is high when the bus is open, shorted, or idle.
