The HMC557LC4TR from Analog Devices is a GaAs PHEMT MMIC low-noise amplifier covering the 6GHz to 18GHz frequency range, ideal for C-band through Ku-band microwave receiver applications. The device provides 22dB of typical gain with a low 2.5dB noise figure, enabling detection of weak signals in demanding receiver chains. The HMC557LC4TR is a monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) amplifier based on GaAs PHEMT (Pseudomorphic High Electron Mobility Transistor) technology. (1) The input matching network provides 50-ohm impedance matching across the 6-18GHz bandwidth, delivering the RF signal to the gate of the first PHEMT gain stage with minimal reflection loss. (2) The multi-stage PHEMT amplifier core provides 22dB of gain through cascaded common-source transistor stages, each biased for optimal noise and linearity performance using on-chip bias networks fed from the +5V supply. (3) The output matching network transforms the drain impedance to 50 ohms for maximum power transfer to the load while maintaining P1dB of 14dBm and OIP3 of 26dBm for linear operation under strong signal conditions.
