The DS1314E+ from Analog Devices (Maxim) is a 3V nonvolatile SRAM controller with integrated lithium battery monitoring. It converts volatile CMOS SRAM into nonvolatile memory by providing automatic write protection during power failures and switching to battery backup. The battery monitor provides early warning of battery end-of-life. The + suffix indicates RoHS-compliant lead-free version in tube packaging.

The DS1314E intercepts the SRAM chip-enable signal and controls the SRAM power supply. When VCC drops below the threshold (set by TOL pin), it: (1) blocks chip-enable to write-protect SRAM, (2) switches SRAM power from VCC to battery, and (3) asserts RST output. The battery monitor checks battery voltage every 24 hours and asserts BW if below threshold. On power recovery, RST stays active for 150-350ms to ensure stable processor startup.
