The Cirrus Logic CS5532-ASZ is the A-grade version of the CS5532 24-bit delta-sigma ADC with two differential input channels and chopper-stabilized input amplifier. The A-grade specification provides lower input-referred noise and tighter gain accuracy compared to the B-grade, making it the preferred choice for precision weighing and measurement applications requiring the highest DC accuracy. The chopper-stabilized amplifier eliminates 1/f noise and input offset drift—the dominant error sources in DC measurement—ensuring that zero-load readings remain stable over time and temperature without periodic re-zeroing. The programmable gain amplifier offers gains of 1x to 64x, with the A-grade providing 8.8 nV/sqrt(Hz) input-referred noise at gain 64x, enabling sub-microvolt signal resolution for strain gauge and load cell applications. The two differential channels with on-chip cross-point multiplexing allow simultaneous measurement of main and tare load cells, or bridge and temperature sensors, with per-channel gain and offset calibration stored in separate registers. The SPI-compatible serial interface supports daisy-chain connection of multiple devices, and the on-chip system calibration registers compensate for external circuit gain and offset errors. Power consumption is 35 mW from +/-5V supplies with a 5 mW power-down mode for battery-operated field instruments.

The CS5532-ASZ operates identically to the CS5532-BSZ but with tighter manufacturing screening for noise and gain accuracy. The 4th-order delta-sigma modulator oversamples the analog input at 4.9152 MHz, and the digital decimation filter produces 24-bit output data at rates from 3.84 to 4800 SPS. The chopper-stabilized amplifier periodically reverses the input polarity at a rate above the signal bandwidth, converting DC offset and 1/f noise into AC signals that are rejected by the digital filter. The A-grade device specifies 8.8 nV/sqrt(Hz) input noise at gain 64x (vs. 10.5 nV/sqrt(Hz) for B-grade) and +/-0.1% gain accuracy (vs. +/-0.5% for B-grade). These tighter specifications are achieved through additional die-level testing and trim during manufacturing. System-level calibration is supported through two modes: self-calibration (using internal reference connections for quick offset/gain correction) and system calibration (using external reference signals that include the full signal path from sensor to ADC). The per-channel calibration registers allow independent offset and gain correction for each input channel, critical in multi-sensor systems where each sensor has different zero-load offset and sensitivity.
