The CA3140AMZ96 is a Renesas (originally Intersil/Harris) BiMOS operational amplifier that combines the advantages of high-voltage PMOS transistors with high-voltage bipolar transistors on a single monolithic chip. The gate-protected PMOS input stage provides 1.5T-ohm input impedance and 10pA input bias current, making it ideal for high-impedance sensor interfaces. The bipolar output stage delivers high current drive with output voltage swinging to the negative supply rail. The wide common-mode input range (-15V to +12V at +/-15V supply) enables single-supply applications where inputs can go below ground. With 3.5MHz GBW and 6V/us slew rate, it provides adequate speed for most general-purpose applications. The device can replace the industry-standard 741 in most applications with improved performance. Packaged in SOIC-8 rated for -40C to +85C.

The CA3140 uses a BiMOS (Bipolar-MOS) process combining PMOS and bipolar transistors. The input differential pair uses gate-protected PMOS transistors, providing extremely high input impedance (1.5T-ohm) and near-zero input bias current (10pA). The PMOS inputs allow the common-mode voltage to extend below the negative supply rail, a critical advantage in single-supply applications. The second stage and output stage use bipolar transistors for high gain and high output current drive capability. The output can swing to within millivolts of the negative supply rail (V-), enabling direct interface to TTL logic at 5V supply. The internal 12pF compensation capacitor provides frequency compensation for unity-gain stability. The offset null terminals (pins 1 and 5) allow external offset voltage trimming.
