The BTS6163DATMA1 from Infineon Technologies is the tape-and-reel variant of the BTS6163D, a single-channel smart high-side power switch from the Classic PROFET 24V family. Featuring an ultra-low on-state resistance of 16 mOhm typical and a nominal load current of 6.5A with short circuit capability up to 70A, the device integrates an N-channel vertical power MOSFET with charge pump, current-controlled input, and proportional current sense diagnostic feedback, all monolithically implemented in Smart SIPMOS chip-on-chip technology. Designed for 24V and 42V DC grounded loads, the BTS6163DATMA1 is AEC-Q100 qualified and provides comprehensive embedded protection including reverse battery protection (Reversave), overtemperature shutdown with automatic restart, short circuit protection, overvoltage protection including load dump, and loss of ground and Vbb protection. The ATMA1 suffix indicates tape and reel packaging with 2500 units per reel, suitable for automated SMT production. The PG-TO252-5-11 (DPAK-5) package provides a thermal resistance of only 1.1 K/W junction-to-case for efficient heat dissipation.

The BTS6163DATMA1 operates as a monolithic high-side power switch with integrated control, diagnostic, and protection functions. The N-channel vertical power MOSFET is driven by an internal charge pump that generates a gate voltage above the supply rail to fully enhance the transistor when the input pin is activated (current-controlled, active-low input). The proportional current sense (IS) output mirrors a fraction of the load current through an integrated sense FET, with the sense ratio determined by an external resistor (RIS). During normal operation, the IS pin provides a current proportional to the load current, enabling the MCU to monitor the load state via an ADC. During fault conditions (overload, overtemperature, or short circuit), the IS output transitions to a defined diagnostic current level per the device truth table, allowing the MCU to identify the specific fault type. The Reversave feature provides reverse battery protection by self-turn-on of the MOSFET in reverse polarity conditions, with the input resistor limiting current. Overvoltage protection clamps the drain voltage at approximately 68-73V during load dump transients.
