The Texas Instruments BQ27510DRZT is a system-side Impedance Track fuel gauge for single-cell lithium-ion batteries with direct battery connection. It provides accurate state-of-charge, remaining capacity (mAh), run-time to empty (min), battery voltage (mV), and temperature readings via the I2C interface. The Impedance Track algorithm uses cell measurements including open-circuit voltage and impedance to create SOC predictions achieving less than 1% error across varied operating conditions and battery lifetime. The device supports multiple power modes including Normal, Sleep, and Hibernate to minimize power consumption when the system is idle. It is available in tape-and-reel packaging for automated assembly.

The BQ27510DRZT fuel gauge uses TI’s patented Impedance Track algorithm combining coulomb counting with cell impedance modeling. During battery relaxation, the device measures open-circuit voltage (OCV) which correlates with absolute SOC via a lookup table. During charge/discharge, an integrated coulomb counter tracks current through a low-value sense resistor while the impedance model compensates for rate-dependent and temperature-dependent effects. The Ra tables stored in data flash are continuously updated during field operation to track battery aging. The device transitions automatically between Normal mode (active measurement), Sleep mode (reduced current, periodic measurements), and Hibernate mode (ultra-low current) based on detected activity. Standard and extended I2C commands provide access to real-time data, configuration registers, and data flash for customization.
