The BQ25792RQMR is a Texas Instruments fully integrated switch-mode buck-boost battery charger for 1-cell to 4-cell Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries. It integrates four switching MOSFETs, input and charging current sensing circuits, the battery FET (BATFET), and all loop compensation for a compact design with minimum external components. The dual-input selector automatically selects between two power sources. USB PD 3.0 OTG output capability allows the device to source power to USB-C peripherals. I2C control provides full configurability of charging parameters, input current limits, and OTG voltage. JEITA temperature compliance ensures safe charging across temperature ranges.

The BQ25792 operates as a buck-boost battery charger with multiple subsystems: (1) The 4-switch buck-boost converter regulates the battery voltage and charging current using integrated MOSFETs (Q1-Q4), operating in buck, boost, or buck-boost mode depending on the input-to-output voltage ratio. (2) The dual-input selector monitors two input sources (VBUS1, VBUS2) and automatically selects the higher-priority source using back-to-back N-channel MOSFETs driven by internal charge pumps. (3) The I2C interface allows the host to configure charge voltage, current limits, OTG output voltage, JEITA thresholds, and monitor status/fault registers. (4) The OTG mode reverses the converter to source power from the battery at programmable voltages (3.3-20.8V) for USB PD 3.0 negotiation. (5) Thermal regulation reduces charge current to maintain junction temperature at the programmed limit.
