AT91SAM7X256C-AU

The AT91SAM7X256C-AU is a member of Microchip’s SAM7X series of 32-bit microcontrollers based on the ARM7TDMI processor. Operating at up to 55MHz, it features 256KB of Flash memory and 64KB of SRAM. The device integrates a comprehensive peripheral set including an Ethernet MAC 10/100 port with DMA, a USB 2.0 Full Speed device port, a CAN 2.0A/B compliant controller, two SPIs, two USARTs, one UART, one TWI (I2C), an SSC, three 16-bit timers, a Real-Time Timer (RTT), and an 8-channel 10-bit ADC. The integrated voltage regulator allows single 3.3V supply operation, with the core running at 1.8V internally. The I/O pins are 5V tolerant, supporting mixed-voltage system designs. A pre-programmed bootloader supports firmware upload via USB or UART interfaces.

The AT91SAM7X256C-AU is built around the ARM7TDMI 32-bit RISC processor core with a 3-stage pipeline executing 32-bit ARM and 16-bit Thumb instruction sets. The Advanced Peripheral Bus (APB) and Advanced High-performance Bus (AHB) connect the processor to peripherals and memory through a DMA controller for efficient data transfer. The Ethernet MAC interfaces to an external PHY via MII/RMII, handling all MAC layer functions including CRC generation and address filtering. The CAN controller manages message filtering, bit timing, and error handling according to CAN 2.0A/B specifications. The USB device controller handles all USB protocol layers including packet formatting, CRC, and endpoint management. The ADC uses a successive approximation register (SAR) architecture with 10-bit resolution.
