The AD824ARZ-14 is a quad FET-input operational amplifier from Analog Devices featuring rail-to-rail outputs and single-supply operation from 3V to 30V (or dual supplies up to ±15V). The JFET input stage provides ultra-low 2 pA input bias current and 10^13 Ω input impedance, making it ideal for high-impedance source applications. The unique input stage design allows input voltages to safely extend beyond the negative supply and up to the positive supply without phase inversion or latch-up. The output swings to within 15 mV of the supply rails, maximizing dynamic range in single-supply systems. Each amplifier consumes only 500 µA of supply current while delivering 2 MHz bandwidth and 2 V/µs slew rate. The -123 dB channel separation at 1 kHz ensures minimal crosstalk between amplifiers in the same package.

The AD824 uses a JFET-input front end fabricated on ADI’s complementary bipolar (CB) process. The input stage consists of N-channel JFETs that provide the extremely low gate current (2 pA typical) and high input impedance (10^13 Ω). The JFET drains connect to a PNP differential pair that performs the voltage amplification. A unique input protection network allows the input common-mode voltage to extend beyond the negative supply rail and up to the positive rail without causing phase inversion or latch-up, a common problem in many other op amps. The output stage uses a complementary push-pull architecture with rail-to-rail capability, driving the output to within 15 mV of either supply rail under light loads. The output stage includes short-circuit protection (±12 mA typical) and can drive capacitive loads up to 350 pF without oscillation. The four amplifiers share supply pins but have independent signal paths with excellent -123 dB channel separation achieved through careful layout and isolation structures on the die.
