The 1N4148WS from ON Semiconductor is the surface-mount version of the ubiquitous 1N4148 switching diode, packaged in a compact SOD-323FL. It offers 100V reverse voltage, 150 mA forward current, and 4 ns reverse recovery time, making it ideal for high-speed switching, signal steering, and protection in space-constrained designs. With low 25 nA reverse leakage and MSL-1 rating, it is the go-to SMD switching diode for virtually every electronics application.

The 1N4148WS is a silicon epitaxial planar diode that conducts current in the forward direction when the anode is positive relative to the cathode, and blocks current in the reverse direction. The fast 4 ns reverse recovery time is achieved through gold-doped silicon, which introduces recombination centers that rapidly remove stored charge when the diode switches from forward to reverse bias. The low junction capacitance (4 pF) minimizes signal distortion in high-frequency circuits. The cathode is indicated by a band on the package body.
